How we handle your answers
Mission to Message is run by Ed Breed in Portland, Oregon. This page explains what we collect when you visit this site or take the Brand Clarity Review, what we do with it, and who else touches it along the way.
Last updated: October 30, 2026
The short version
- We use your answers to prepare your organization's review, and for nothing else.
- We never sell your information or add you to a mailing list without asking.
- An AI tool helps score your answers. Ed reads and checks every result before you see it, and our AI provider doesn't use your answers to train its models.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
What we collect
When you take the Brand Clarity Review, we collect what you type into the form:
- Your name, role, email address and organization
- Your answers about your organization's mission, audiences, voice and plans
- Your team code, if you use one
- Your organization's website address
Please don't include private details about donors, clients or the people you serve. The review doesn't need them.
When you give permission at the end of the form, we also read your organization's public website, along with the public websites of three or four similar organizations near you for comparison.
When you visit this site, our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs: your IP address, browser type and the pages you requested. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address too. We don't use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
When you email us, we keep your message and our reply.
How we use it
- To prepare your report, your seven-slide summary and your one-on-one conversation with Ed
- To compare answers from people at your organization who used the same team code. The comparison shows where your team agrees and disagrees without naming who said what, and it's shared only with your organization.
- To reply to you, and to follow up once about a paid next step if one makes sense
- To keep the site running and secure
We don't publish your answers or use them in examples without your written permission. The sample report on our homepage is built from a made-up composite organization.
How AI is used
Your answers and website are scored with an AI-assisted process built on our Nonprofit Positioning Guide. We use Claude, made by Anthropic, for this step, so your answers are sent to Anthropic's servers to be processed.
We have turned off the setting that lets Anthropic use our conversations to train its models. Ed deletes each review conversation once your report is finished. Anthropic then removes it from its systems within 30 days, except where it must keep data longer for legal or safety reasons.
Ed reads every result, checks it against your answers and your website, and corrects anything that's off. No decision about your organization is made by AI alone.
Who else handles your information
We use a few service providers to run the site and the review. Each one handles your information only to provide its service to us.
| Provider | What it does | What it sees |
|---|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts this site and the review form | Your form answers and server logs |
| Hostinger (Titan Mail) | Delivers your answers to Ed by email and hosts Ed's inbox | Your form answers and emails |
| Anthropic (Claude) | AI-assisted scoring and report drafting | Your answers and public website content |
| Google Fonts | Serves the site's fonts | Your IP address |
We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your answers and report: 90 days after your review. That includes the emails that deliver your answers to Ed. After that, we delete them.
- AI conversations: deleted by Ed when your report is finished. Anthropic then removes them within 30 days, except where it must keep data longer for legal or safety reasons.
- Other emails: ordinary back-and-forth with us is kept for 1 year, then deleted.
- Server logs: kept by Netlify under its own retention schedule.
If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Your choices
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. If you answered with a team code, deleting your answers removes them from your organization's comparison too.
You can also stop the review at any point before you submit. Answers you haven't submitted stay in your own browser and never reach us.
How we protect it
The site and form use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Ed's accounts use strong passwords and two-factor sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, so if we learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you promptly.
Children
This site and the review are for adults who work with or volunteer for nonprofits. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects answers you've already given us, we'll email you first.
